Brain Ooze Kind of Day

Brain Ooze Kind of Day

I think my eyes are about to roll back into my skull and turn to ooze.

I admit it. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen the clock tick close to three  in the morning because I was up doing productive things. In fact, I am reasonably certain that the word productive had been, until now, entirely void from my vocabulary. Somehow, though, I conquered the DEMONS OF LAZY and was able to pull from the mush that is the Mandaland-centric portion of my brain the drive to complete a PROJECT. You can now VIEW IT. Right here. More bloggy goodness from yours truly, updated tuesdays and thursdays (or so.)

Grand Rapids! I’m here! I suppose for the sake of background information I should tell you a little bit about, er, my living situation. Let’s call it that. The place I am residing shall henceforth be known as Geekhouse until a new place of residence is acquired. We do geeky things here. My roommates are scientists in charge of The Geek Group. They teach kids about science, and make YouTube videos. There’s Chris (ahem, “Duck.”) who likes to go on adventures, and Lis, the kickass photographer, and then Cory who seems to just appear to do Duck’s bidding, but I’m sure there’s more to it than that.

At any rate, as if just living with a pile of awesome people was not enough, I decided that I was going to need to get FRIENDS. This became a sort of project. How does one find friends when one hangs out with self-professed geeks who don’t really… you know, go places where you meet friends? Or without going to bars or…places like that. Pubs? Do people go to pubs?

So that was PROJECT NUMBER ONE (see how official it is, what with the caps and the bold and what not) – Find a Gaming Group. Why? Because gamers make good friends, I guess, and it was an easy way to break the ice and find people to hang out with and DON’T JUDGE ME it seemed like a good idea. Some clever hunting on Google found me a game store that seemed to have fairly regular games of D&D, Magic, etc going on, so I stopped in on my way into town just in time to find out that there would be a Pathfinder Society session at 5 PM. Fabulous.

Go home, shower, then the debacle. I suppose it wasn’t really a debacle, but I mean, I like to consider myself a reasonably fashionable person. But what does one wear for one’s first gaming session situation thingy whatsit? Do you go with the nerdy shirt and risk appearing like you’re trying too hard? Stylish girly clothes that make them wonder what you’re actually doing there? I’m not ashamed to admit that I probably looked like a complete idiot when I left the house in my Admiral Ackbar t-shirt, supermegatrendy PacSun skinny jeans, $3 plastic yellow Wal-Mart flats, and a blue and white striped zip-up cardigan that I’m really not sure where I acquired it but it looked-fashionable-so-might-as-well-add-it-to-the-collection. Clearly rolled low on my LOOK MA I CAN DRESS MYSELF check there, but I seem to have survived.

The game was fun, at least, and the guys were nice, and I was invited to join in a different Pathfinder game on Wednesdays, which might be pretty cool. Job situation pending I may try to check it out this week, if only because I had a blast on Saturday, so why not give it another shot? A second game session means more friends! YEAH! FRIENDS! (Can you tell how bad at this I am?)

So. It’s three in the morning. I spent all day setting up Charisma Bonus and blatantly ignored the polite request that MANDA YOU ARE NOW THE DISHES LADY. DISHES IS YOUR JOB. But when the work bug strikes, man, you just gotta make lemonade while the iron is hot. Or something. Pretty sure I’m not getting that right.

I should get some sleep.
